Terms and Conditions

These terms cover the Salty Swim Times website (saltyswimtimes.com) and the Salty Swim Times Android app. By using either, you agree to them.

1. Your account

You are responsible for the accuracy of your profile details and for keeping your password secure. Accounts for swimmers under 18 should be created with a parent or guardian's consent.

2. Results and times

Meet results are published from official result sheets. Salty Swim Times aims for accuracy but official meet records remain the authority. Report errors via the Contact page.

3. Photos and content

Only upload photos you own or have permission to share. We may remove content that is inappropriate.

4. Privacy

Swimmer names, teams, ages and race results are shown publicly as part of meet results. Email addresses and dates of birth are never shown publicly.

5. The Android app

The Salty Swim Times Android app is free. It shows the same account, times and dashboard as the website, and you log in with your website account.

  • Where to get it. The app is offered only as a download (an APK file) from saltyswimtimes.com/app.php. It is not on the Google Play Store. Only install it from our website; we are not responsible for copies downloaded from anywhere else.
  • Installing. Because the app doesn't come from the Play Store, Android asks you to allow your browser, and later the app itself, to "install unknown apps". You choose whether to allow this, and you can turn it off again in your phone's settings at any time.
  • Updates. The app checks our website for new versions. When you tap Update now, it downloads the new version from saltyswimtimes.com, checks that the file is complete and unchanged, and opens Android's installer, where you confirm the update. Every version is signed with the same Salty Swim Times key. If Android ever reports that the signature doesn't match, don't install that file and let us know. We may stop supporting old versions and ask you to update.
  • Permissions. The app only asks for internet access, plus permission to install its own updates. It does not use your location, camera, microphone, contacts or files.
  • What the app sends us. Your email and password when you log in (over an encrypted HTTPS connection), your phone's model name (shown so you can recognise the sign-in), and requests for your dashboard and times.
  • Staying logged in. After you log in, the app keeps a sign-in token in its private storage on your phone; other apps can't read it. We store only a scrambled (hashed) copy of that token. It expires after 90 days without use, and logging out removes it from your phone and our server.
  • Requirements. Android 8.0 or newer and an internet connection. On iPhone, use the website instead. You can add it to your home screen from Safari.

6. Downloads

The app and any files we offer for download (such as seed-time exports) are provided free for personal use by swimmers, parents, coaches and teams. Please don't modify, repackage, resell or redistribute the app; share the link to our download page instead. Downloads are provided "as is". We work to keep them safe and working, but we can't guarantee they are free of errors or will work on every device.

7. Cookies and similar technology

We keep this to a minimum:

  • One essential cookie. When you use the website, we set a single cookie, sst_session, that keeps you logged in and protects forms from misuse. It is deleted when you close your browser, and it can't be read by scripts or other websites. The site can't work without it, so there is no option to turn it off.
  • No advertising or tracking cookies. We don't show ads and we don't use third-party tracking or social media cookies.
  • Visitor statistics without cookies. To count visitors, we combine your IP address and browser type with a code that changes every day and store only the scrambled result. We never store your IP address, and we can't follow you from one day to the next.
  • Browser storage. Your browser may keep copies of our styles, scripts and images, and a simple "you're offline" page, so the site loads faster. This contains no personal information.
  • Fonts. The website loads its typeface from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google's servers to fetch it.

The Android app doesn't use cookies; it uses the sign-in token described in section 5.

8. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the site and app change. The date at the top shows the latest version. If you keep using Salty Swim Times after a change, you accept the updated terms.
